Timothy Smith is a Senior Managing Director at Ankura with more than two decades of experience in healthcare valuation and transaction advisory roles, with a focus on physician-related transactions and the pre-transactional determination of fair market value for regulatory compliance purposes. His compensation valuation practice focuses on physician compensation for clinical services, medical directorships, call coverage, and administrative and executive services as well as other industry services arrangements, such as management services.
His healthcare industry experience includes more than 14 years with the Hospital Corporation of America where he designed and managed HCA’s fair market value compliance program for outside appraisals as part of the company’s corporate integrity agreement.
During his tenure at HCA, he reviewed hundreds of business and compensation appraisals with a focus on healthcare regulatory compliance. He also negotiated physician practice acquisition and divestiture transactions and served as an ethics and compliance officer.
Timothy is the co-editor of the industry’s leading textbook on healthcare compensation valuation “BVR/AHLA Guide to Valuing Physician Compensation and Healthcare Service Arrangements.” Timothy is an active member of various organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association, and the Medical Group Management Association.
He is a nationally-recognized thought leader on compensation valuation and a frequent speaker on healthcare valuation at industry conferences across the country.
