David Kim is a Managing Director at Ankura based in Hong Kong. He has over 13 years of experience in the legal technology and e-discovery space.

Experience

David focuses on managing complex litigation and investigation matters, advising clients on the design and implementation of document review workflows, and the application of technology to reduce discovery costs and improve efficiency in large scale document reviews. His experience covers a wide range of sectors including banking, pharmaceutical, shipping, and technology.

David’s professional experience includes:

  • Led a global team engaged in on-site data collection, processing, and review of highly sensitive data in China for a banking client responding to discovery demands in a high-profile international litigation. Document review involved multiple complex layers of review to identify and redact PII, state secrets, and various privileges prior to production.
  • Acted as lead consultant handling e-discovery matters for a Chinese e-commerce company, including a U.S. securities class action, HKSFC section 183 notice, internal compliance investigation, and U.S. DOJ investigation. Customized workflows involved transfer of data across multiple air-gapped and online review environments, development of data collection and processing protocols for proprietary data types, and leveraging of data analytics and predictive coding for document review.
  • Led discovery efforts in response to two documents requests from the U.S. DOJ relating to an anti-trust investigation of a Japanese client in the shipping industry. The project involved processing of over 7.3 million documents, supporting review teams in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Washington, DC, and production of over 800 thousand documents in a six-week period followed by supplemental production of an additional 100 thousand documents in following weeks.
  • Regularly advised clients on use of Technology Assisted Review, most notably in relation to a large-scale joint investigation involving approximately 10 million documents and several regulators in Singapore and culminating in one of the first endorsements of the use of predictive coding by an Asian regulator.
