Evan Wright is a Senior Managing Director at Ankura based in Melbourne. He has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance, valuations, and forensic accounting, and specializes in quantification of loss and damage in commercial disputes and litigation, as well as valuation of businesses, shares, projects, intellectual property, and options.

Experience

Prior to joining Ankura, Evan was a director in a valuations and dispute advisory practice at a Big 4 firm in Australia. Known for his deep technical knowledge, he has advised clients on some of the largest and most complex disputes and valuations across a range of sectors.

Evan’s expertise in quantification of loss and damages comes from a wide variety of local disputes and international arbitrations, where he has acted as both an independent expert and a consulting expert. His experience includes disputes related to breach of contract, shareholder oppression, class actions, misleading and deceptive conduct, delay claims, post-acquisition disputes, insurance claims, family law, and tax disputes. He has prepared hundreds of valuation reports for both dispute and non-dispute purposes. His valuation experience spans a broad range of industries and both public and private companies in Australia and internationally, including valuations relating to mergers and acquisitions, financial reporting, and tax.

Expert Witness Reports

  • Valuation of a minority equity interest in a global wholesale company in relation to a shareholder oppression proceeding.
  • Quantification of loss and damages incurred by a property development company arising from the delay of an industrial land subdivision.
  • Valuation of a national automotive parts retailer in relation to a shareholder oppression proceeding.
  • Quantification of loss suffered by the state government of Tasmania as a result of a six-month outage on the underwater power cable connecting Tasmania to the national power grid.
  • Valuations of a small family-owned IT business and a large global technology business for family law purposes.

Consulting Expert Engagements

  • Assessment of loss and damages on behalf of an ASX listed manufacturer arising from the failure of a manufacturing plant.
  • Preparation of litigation support materials to assist a national retailer in the defense of a class action brought by franchisees in relation to alleged breaches of the franchise agreements.
  • Engaged by an ASX listed mining services company to assess the loss and damages in relation to a misleading and deceptive conduct claim.
  • Conducted financial analysis for a national restaurant chain to evaluate store profitability across multiple locations after the compulsory acquisition of two flagship stores.

Valuation Engagements

  • Valuation of more than 80 entities owned by BHP’s UK incorporated entity, BHP PIc, for tax purposes as part of the company’s reorganization of its corporate structure.
  • Purchase price allocation and valuation services for an ASX listed company in relation to a proposed acquisition of another ASX listed company.
  • Annual valuations of equity and debt interests in ports, toll roads, airports, and other infrastructure assets on behalf of investors for unit pricing purposes.
  • Public independent expert reports assessing the fair and reasonableness of proposed transactions involving BuyMyPlace.com, Nufarm, Circa, AMP, Verdant Minerals, and others.
