Julian Honowitz is a Senior Director at Ankura, based in Chicago. He has over 11 years of experience providing expertise in litigation consulting. He has testified on matters involving digital assets, including bitcoin and bitcoin miners. Julian has been involved in numerous engagements across various industries and continents, such as government contracts and concessions, energy, mining, financial claims and securities valuation, international construction, insurance claims, healthcare, wholesale and distribution, international manufacturing, biotech and pharmaceutical, professional services, software, and telecommunications.

Experience

He has led project teams on matters involving economic damages, business interruption, forensic accounting, construction delay and productivity claims, and transfer pricing. Julian’s expertise extends to the valuation of Fortune 500 companies and pre-revenue early-stage startups. Through his engagements, he has worked with public and private companies as well as private clients across a variety of traditional and alternative dispute resolution forums in national, international, federal, state, and tax court jurisdictions.

Some of Julian’s most recent professional experience in cases include:

  • Bitcoin mining, U.S. (JAMS): Assessed damages and provided expert written and oral testimony in an arbitration as to the lost profits suffered by a bitcoin miner due to breach of contract.
  • Oil production, Ecuador (ICSID): Assessing damages and will provide expert written and oral testimony in an investor-state dispute regarding the value of an exploration and production contract in Ecuador.
  • Gold Mining, Mexico (ICSID): Led project team for determination of damages in an investor-state dispute involving the valuation of a gold mining company in Mexico.
  • Renewable Energy, Peru (ICSID): Led project team in the calculation of damages for an investor-state dispute regarding the valuation of a hydroelectric project.
  • Government Rail Concession, East Africa (UNCITRAL): Led project team for valuation of damages in an investor-state dispute involving multi-state railroad concessions.
