Michael Pesce is a Senior Managing Director at Ankura based in New York. He performs expert accounting, damages and valuation work in complex civil litigation, tax controversies, and in regulatory investigations. He also serves as a transaction advisor to companies and investors providing accounting, valuation, and solvency analysis. Mike has expertise in sports advisory services providing expert valuation support and forensic accounting services to clubs, leagues, and franchises across multiple sports.
Experience
Mike serves as an expert witness and has presented findings before audit and special committees, boards of directors, and regulatory authorities. His experience includes engagements related to contract claims, tax controversies, securities litigation, internal investigations, and SEC and DOJ investigations.
Prior to joining Ankura, Mike was with a Big 4 public accounting firm where he was responsible for leading financial statement audits and conducting M&A due diligence for public and private entities across a number of industries.

- Damages: Provided damages and valuation analysis considering the business prospects, market factors, and damages theories.
- Forensic Accounting: Provided transaction analysis and transaction tracing through companies financial statements and underlying business records in civil litigation, regulatory investigations, and internal investigations. Mike has led engagements analyzing hundreds of complex transactions in connection with allegations of misappropriation, trading losses, and improper accounting treatments.
- US GAAP and IFRS Accounting: Provided analysis of fair value compliance under ASC 820 and IFRS 13 in regulatory investigations and shareholder litigation. Also provided materiality assessments.
- Tax Analysis and Damages: Provided analysis of deferred taxes and unrecognized tax benefits under ASC 740, allocations of tax attributes to limited partners and related damages.
- Solvency and Ability-to-Pay Analysis: Provided balance sheet test, capital adequacy, and cash flow solvency tests. Also performed financial modeling of companies ability to pay regulatory fines and environmental liabilities.
- Valuation and Damages Analysis in Transaction and Post-Acquisition Disputes: Provided valuation and damages analysis considering the offering process and performing valuations and market-based analysis.
