The 7th Annual Workshop on Applications of Artificial Intelligence in the Legal Industry

About the Event

Due to the exponential growth of data, the legal industry continues to face significant challenges resulting in increasingly complex legal cases that require accurate and efficient processing of vast amounts of information. As a result, legal professionals are turning to Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to streamline and optimize their work. Despite the use of AI technology, the sheer volume of data in legal cases is often overwhelming, with more than 350,000 docket data cases brought to United States courts each year. A typical antitrust investigation today involves terabytes of data that must be processed and analyzed to derive new insights, make better judgments, and develop effective strategies. To address these challenges, the legal industry has increasingly embraced AI technologies, such as natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning, to efficiently process and analyze large amounts of complex legal data and deliver legal services at reduced costs and efficient speed. Advancements in AI such as chatbot technology, like ChatGPT, along with breakthroughs in machine learning, NLP, speech and image processing, and big data analytics are paving the way for revolutionary changes. From automated contract drafting to intelligent legal robots, predictive coding to judicial analytics, and litigation outcome prediction to case management, AI and big data analytics are revolutionizing the legal industry. As AI technology continues to permeate everyday life and workplaces, it is poised to impact the legal industry profoundly. Concerns about transparency and the ethical implications of AI applications lead to regulatory issues aimed at mitigating unintended social consequences while harnessing the competitive advantages and economic gains of these emerging technologies. With the growing prevalence of AI in legal big data, the disconnect between the legal industry and academics who work with AI applications in big data is apparent. Building on the success of previous years, the 7th Annual Workshop on Applications of Artificial Intelligence in the Legal Industry is designed to advance research into AI and big data analytics applied to legal data, with a particular interest in exploring novel and interesting cases. In particular, this workshop will:
  • Bridge the gap between practitioners and technology
  • Promote the use of AI in big data analytics in the legal field
  • Facilitate open and thoughtful dialogue on how these platforms can assist legal practitioners
  • Provide a platform for legal professionals, academics, and AI experts to share their insights and experiences, and examine the intersection of law and AI
By the end of this workshop, our goal is to help expand and enhance applications of AI in big data analytics within the legal industry. Research topics included in the workshop:
  • NLP and understanding of the legal industry
  • Intelligent legal information retrieval
  • Legal text summarization, extraction, and classification
