The 8th Annual Workshop on Applications of Artificial Intelligence in the Legal Industry

About the Event

Data Challenges and the Rise of AI in the Legal Industry

The legal industry faces significant challenges due to the rapid growth of data, leading to more complex legal cases and the need for more efficient information processing. Legal professionals are increasingly relying on artificial intelligence (AI) technology to manage the overwhelming volume of data in legal cases as hundreds of thousands of docket cases are brought to United States courts each year and typical antitrust investigations involve terabytes of data that must be processed and analyzed to derive new insights, make better judgments, and develop effective strategies in legal cases.

AI technologies, such as natural language processing, machine learning, and generative AI are being adopted to process and analyze complex legal data more efficiently, helping to reduce costs and improve turnaround times. These advancements in AI and generative AI, like ChatGPT, are revolutionizing the industry through automated contract drafting, intelligent legal assistance, predictive coding, judicial analytics, litigation outcome prediction and more offering significant advancements in legal service delivery.

However, the integration of AI in the legal field also raises concerns about transparency and ethics, prompting regulatory actions designed to balance innovation while mitigating unintended social consequences and harnessing the competitive advantages these technologies deliver.

Fostering Research and Open Dialogue: Workshop Goals and Objectives

Building on the success of previous years, this workshop aims to address the gap between practitioners and technology and promote the adoption of AI technology in big data legal analytics through open dialogue on leveraging these technologies to enhance legal practice while considering ethical and regulatory implications. We facilitate further research into AI and big data analytics applied to legal data, with particular interest in exploring novel and interesting cases in this area.

Key Objectives:

  • Bridge the gap between practitioners and technology
  • Promote the use of AI in big data analytics in the legal field
  • Facilitate open and thoughtful dialogue on how these platforms can assist legal practitioners
  • Provide a platform for legal professionals, academics, and AI experts to share their insights and experiences, and examine the intersection of law and AI

By the end of this workshop, our goal is to help expand and enhance applications of AI in big data analytics within the legal industry.
