Alex Durning

Alex has over 28 years of experience in the construction industry, largely on projects in Asia and Australia, working as a PQS, contractor, and consultant. He has held multiple senior management positions in Australia, once at a property developer and twice at main contracting organizations. Through these roles, he gained first hand experience of the typical challenges faced in the preparation, assessment, negotiation, and settlement of disputed payment claims in Australia.

• Numerous expert appointments (maximum disputed value AUD$300 million) on matters relating to hotel, mining, oil and gas, rail, road, and water projects.
• Lead assistant to Ankura’s top construction experts (maximum disputed value AUD$1 billion) on matters related to airport, hospital, oil and gas, and road projects.

Adjudication

• Resolution Institute, RICS, and NECA appointed adjudicator.
• Involved in more than 75 adjudications on matters related to building, design services, mining, oil and gas, road, and water projects.

Expert Determination

• Resolution Institute appointed expert determiner.
• Involved in five expert determinations on matters related to rail, road, school, and water projects.

Mediation

• Presented and responded to questions concerning disputed payment claims in court ordered mediations in Western Australia and New South Wales.

Contract Management

• Commercial director of industrial services contractor with portfolio of large value contracts in mining and oil and gas in Western Australia.
• Contracts manager of mining services contractor responsible for three major projects in Western Australia overseeing receipt of AUD$2.5 billion in revenue.
