Organizations responding to scandal, crisis, or allegations of misconduct are subject to intense scrutiny from law enforcement, regulators, shareholders, and the public. When confronted with allegations of illicit activity, leaders must act swiftly and decisively to address all related regulatory, legal, and operational challenges. A credible, proper investigation can protect an organization and its stakeholders by preventing isolated issues from becoming systemic problems and minimizing disruption to an organization’s reputation and value.

Global Financial Institution
Ankura was retained by the independent audit committee of a large financial institution to perform an internal investigation with outside counsel and assist in responding to the SEC and the DOJ concerning allegations of improper fees charged to customers. Our team deconstructed the proprietary trading systems and computer code to clearly explain the details surrounding the trading process, the data captured, and the functionality of the custom computer software. Ultimately, we analyzed the scope of the fees and customers affected. The investigation results were reported to the audit committee, the SEC, the DOJ, and the FBI.
