David Bryant is a Managing Director at Ankura based in Perth. He is an experienced chartered accountant and a restructuring, insolvency, and turnaround professional who draws on his broad commercial expertise, detailed industry knowledge, and strong technical abilities to assist businesses, business owners, directors and boards, lenders, and other stakeholders in navigating periods of financial uncertainty and stress.

Experience

David has comprehensive knowledge of and experience in all forms of turnaround and restructuring, formal insolvency (administration, liquidation, receivership), informal restructuring and advisory engagements, solvent wind downs (MVL’s), lender advisory and corporate recovery briefs, safe harbor, and (in)solvency related expert witness roles.

David’s professional experience includes:

  • Restructure and recapitalization of a U.S. $150 million ASX listed copper producer with operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo by way of Deed of Company Arrangement (DOCA), including management of long running, complex implementation litigation.
  • Long-term trading, sale, and settlement of two licensed taverns and an associated property portfolio to recover a circa AU $25 million exposure to a major Australian bank, requiring a considered and consistent approach over a protracted duration due to the remote location, challenging market conditions, and unique stakeholder dynamics.
  • Restructure and recapitalization of a civil contracting and traffic management business, by way of DOCA, with statutory liabilities in excess of AU $7.5 million accumulated as result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Sale of circa AU $15 million commercial, rural, and residential property portfolio as receiver and manager on behalf of a major Australian financier and associated lender advisory which resulted in full repayment and refinance of their residual exposure.
  • Trading and sale of a multimillion self-storage business and long-term leasehold premises as receiver on behalf of a major Australia financier.
  • Security, preservation, and arrangement of a circa AU $25 million fleet of specialized road making and civil construction equipment, which was widely dispersed through remote Western Australia and financed by 15 separate financiers.
  • Various confidential pre-lending and independent business reviews on behalf of major Australian banks and other financial institutions and stakeholders.
  • Various confidential safe harbor advisory engagements for listed and privately owned businesses, including acting as appropriately qualified entity under the Corporations Act 2001.
  • Various confidential independent expert roles including in support of insolvent trading actions on behalf of a registered liquidators and litigation funder and defense of material voidable transaction claims against a major Australian financier.

David is a member of ARITA’s Western Australian Divisional Committee and a rider, fundraiser, and advocate for the Hawaiian Ride for Youth, Australia’s premier charity event for the prevention of youth suicide and depression.
