Joe Kucharz is a Managing Director at Ankura with expertise in healthcare real estate. Prior to joining Ankura, Joe was a director in the healthcare real estate group, which was part of Navigant’s disputes, forensics & legal technology segment acquired by Ankura in 2018. With over 35 years of healthcare industry experience, his diverse facilities development expertise includes complex campus redevelopments, greenfield hospitals, and MOBs, and over $2.5 billion of comprehensive campus/facilities planning and implementation.


Joe’s professional experience includes:

  • Rush University Medical Center/Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Oak Brook, IL: Development and real estate advisory services for a 100K SF ambulatory care building containing an outpatient surgery center, advanced imaging, physician clinical office space, and parking garage.
  • UnityPoint Health – Trinity, Bettendorf, IA: Obstetrics department expansion.
  • Mount Carmel Health System, Columbus, OH – Mount Carmel East: Major campus modernization program, bed tower addition, and parking garage.
  • Northwestern Memorial Health System, Chicago, IL: One million square foot mixed-use high rise ambulatory care center/medical office building including a musculoskeletal institute, ASTC, imaging center, and parking garage.
  • Advocate Health Care, Chicago, IL: Planning and development of two medically-integrated health fitness centers.
  • Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, VA: Development of a phased replace-in-place strategic facilities master plan and implementation of $215 million of multi-phased campus projects.
  • Beacon Health Systems, Memorial Children’s Hospital of South Bend, IN: Vertical addition to a regional medical center to develop a “children’s hospital within a hospital.”
  • Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb, IL: 100-bed greenfield replacement hospital and developer-owned MOB.
  • Lake Hospital System, Painesville, OH: 120-bed greenfield replacement hospital. The team took over midstream and corrected a $30 million budget and 70,000 square foot project scope bust.
  • Virtua Health, Southwestern NJ: System-wide strategic, facilities, financial, and capital plan, including services/facilities distribution plan and a plan to consolidate three existing hospitals into a new to-be-built greenfield tertiary care center.
  • Unity Point Health, Allen Hospital, Waterloo, IA: Strategic master facility plan for a 220-bed community hospital and implementation of a $40 million, 70,000 square foot new emergency department and heart/vascular care center.
  • Great Plains Regional Medical Center, Elk City, OK: 80-bed greenfield replacement hospital.
  • Danbury Hospital, Danbury, CT: Clinic model ambulatory care center with parking garage attached to the hospital.
  • Bronson Healthcare Group, Kalamazoo, MI: 90,000 square foot medically-integrated health fitness center.
  • Culpeper Regional Hospital, Culpeper, VA: Strategic facilities master plan and implementation of ED/ancillary services expansion as well as a free-standing medical health fitness center.
  • Metro Health Hospital, Wyoming, MI: 208-bed greenfield replacement hospital within an innovative healthcare village.
  • Medicorp Health System, Stafford, VA: 60,000 square foot developer-owned MOB including a comprehensive cancer center.
  • Sinai Health System, Chicago, IL: HUD financed campus redevelopment program including a new inpatient bed tower and freestanding ambulatory care center.
