Matthew Sepe

Matthew has supported intellectual property dispute resolutions, building valuation models used to estimate lump sums, and running royalty payments. He has also assisted in the preparation of economic reports used in reasonable royalty rate determinations. Matthew has utilized numerous patent data sources to build project-specific databases and provide targeted insights.

Matthew graduated summa cum laude from the Villanova University School of Business, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and Business Analytics. Matthew joined Ankura in 2019.

Matthew’s professional experience includes:

• Evaluating intellectual property licenses and other similar transactions to determine comparable royalty rates for valuation disputes and negotiations. Constructing valuation models that adjust royalty considerations to be tailored to the subject intellectual property.
• Developing reasonable royalty, alternative design, and lost profit calculations to determine damages in intellectual property disputes.
• Researching patent portfolios and building patent databases using leading data platforms. Performing competitive benchmarking and providing strategic insights on intellectual property positions.
• Constructing top-down models and comparable license unpackings used in standard essential patent (SEP) disputes to determine fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) royalty rates.
• Researching and evaluating company financial data and backgrounds to develop business profiles, analyze historical trends, and project future performance.
