Senior Managing Director

Steve Miller is a Senior Managing Director at Ankura, based in Houston. A former NASA engineer with a Master’s of Business Administration and a law degree, he brings 35 years of corporate and consulting experience and has supported more than 350 transactions.
Experience
Steve specializes in bridging the operational, business, and legal dimensions of complex deals to help clients avoid issues that are often overlooked. With three decades in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), he rapidly identifies patterns, anticipates deal dynamics, and solves the unique challenges that arise in transactions of any size.
Earlier in his career, Steve led early-cycle diligence, valuation, and negotiations on the corporate side before spending over 25 years in Big Four and global management consulting firms, where he built multiple operational M&A and related practices. He has advised CEOs and chief financial officers (CFOs) on growth and M&A strategy, competitive bids and auctions, pre-close planning, post-close integration, and performance improvement for acquisitions that failed to meet expectations. His deal experience ranges from $60 million to over $60 billion and spans every major sector.
Before consulting, Steve executed international energy-sector deals and ultimately led corporate development for a private equity portfolio company pursuing a roll-up strategy in the non-destructive testing space.
Steve began his career at NASA, where he designed tools and procedures to support in-orbit payload repair, trained astronauts, and led an advanced life support research and development program.
In addition to authoring numerous papers, Steve is frequently sought out for his M&A expertise. He has participated in panels for organizations such as the Association for Corporate Growth; spoken at universities; appeared on podcasts such as CFO Talk Radio; and been interviewed by publications such as Law360.
