Chris Lake is a Managing Director at Ankura, based in London. Chris primarily focuses on engagements that involve determining the value of businesses or shares, calculating lost profits or assessing wasted costs.

Chris has more than 13 years’ experience assessing losses and was first appointed as an expert in 2018. He has been appointed as an expert witness before the UK High Court and Family Court, and has testified before the UK High Court. Chris has further experience of UK litigation, international commercial arbitration, and investment treaty disputes.

Prior to joining Ankura, Chris was a member of FTI Consulting’s economic and financial consulting practice in London. He previously interned with Deloitte UK while still a student and, after earning his degree in economics and finance, worked as a research assistant at the University of Bristol’s Centre for Market and Public Organisation.

Experience

Chris’ professional experience includes:

  • Expert Appointments: Assessed lost profits and wasted costs following the provision of defective goods on behalf of a wholesale food and drink supplier. Accounting and valuation expertise relating to the alleged sale of private shares at undervalue during insolvency proceedings.
  • Insured Losses: Acting as an independent expert in a claim under W&I Policy following alleged understatement of costs by a manufacturing company. Assessing losses in disputed claims brought against insurers, including claims arising out of COVID-19 restrictions. Calculation of insurance claims for business interruption.
  • Investor-State Arbitrations; Commercial Arbitrations: Valuation of expropriated investments, including in the: oil and gas, commodities, infrastructure, and retail sectors. Valuation of shares following alleged breaches of warranties/covenants. Valuation of shares related to alleged professional negligence leading to sale of care homes for less than their value.
  • Loss Assessments: Assessment of lost profits of a company developing real estate in Eastern Europe. Assessment of lost profits of an Eastern European oil and gas company. Assessment of lost profits related to alleged defects in the construction of a luxury hotel.
  • Family Proceedings: Acting as an independent expert to value the shares in a privately-held, owner-managed logistics company. Valuation advice relating to an IT company valued at around £300 million.
  • Wasted Costs, Cost Allocations: Wasted costs assessments in relation to a large government IT projects. Wasted costs assessment in relation to oil and gas operations, following breach of contract. Determination of appropriate cost allocation in a North Sea oil and gas joint venture.
