Craig Allan Ahrens is a Managing Director at Ankura with more than 20 years of experience as a trusted advisor to healthcare executives, physician leadership, hospital trustees, private equity investors, and healthcare legal firms on the systemic strategic, operational, and financial challenges facing healthcare organizations and their related physician enterprises.
Craig specializes in developing and implementing practical strategies that create value for healthcare systems through enhanced strategic, market, operational, and financial positioning. Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with leading organizations from across the industry, from academic medical centers and government healthcare providers to complex healthcare systems and private medical groups. His clients have included Mount Sinai Health System in New York City; Northwell Health, affiliated with New York’s Hofstra University; the Veterans Health Administration, the nation’s largest healthcare system; UC Davis Health in Sacramento, California; Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia; and Catholic Healthcare Initiatives, which operates in 17 states.
Prior to joining Ankura, Craig was a leader in the physician enterprise practice at BDC Consulting, where he served clients, including large academic health systems and community healthcare systems, in strategy, hospital improvement, physician organization, productivity, healthcare delivery strategy, and patient access. He previously was a senior director in FTI Consulting’s health solutions practice, where he spearheaded multiple strategic, business development, and performance optimization initiatives involving healthcare strategy, operations, and physician practice improvement.
Craig began his career as an executive in the system strategic planning and medical group departments of BJC Healthcare in Saint Louis, Missouri. He went on to operational leadership roles at Ascension Healthcare in Indianapolis, Indiana, and at Rockford Health in Illinois. He transitioned to consulting when he joined Tiber Group/Navigant and, later, ECG Management Consultants, where he focused on healthcare strategy, performance improvement, physician practices, and service-line development.
