Investigations, Compliance, & Monitorship Expertise; Sexual Misconduct & Title IX

Dan Schorr is a Managing Director at Ankura, based in New York. A former criminal prosecutor and municipal inspector general, he has more than 20 years of legal and investigative experience. Dan manages a variety of complex assignments, from investigations into major fraud, internal issues at corporations and governmental entities, and sexual misconduct and Title IX violations to litigation support, threat management, construction quality concerns, labor-law compliance, and independent monitorships.

  • Experience

    Before joining Ankura, Dan was a managing director at Kroll, overseeing a broad range of international investigations and monitorships. He previously served as inspector general for the city of Yonkers, NY, supervising a staff of investigators responsible for fostering efficient and effective government through audits, investigations, and policy recommendations to the city council and the mayor. In that position, Dan oversaw major investigations into such issues as integrity monitoring, overtime costs, vendor accountability, consolidation, and cost-saving initiatives.

    Dan began his legal career as an assistant district attorney, specializing in the investigation and prosecution of sex crimes, domestic violence, child abuse, and homicides. He also worked for several years as a vice president in the law division at Morgan Stanley, where he conducted investigations into claims related to client investments. He has appeared as a commentator on legal issues for television news programs on ABC, Fox News, CNN, and the BBC, among others.

    In addition to his legal work, Dan is an adjunct professor at the Fordham University School of Law in New York, teaching “Special Victims: Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes.” He previously taught criminal law and legal writing at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, also in New York.  Through a grant from the US Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, he taught Chinese judges and lawyers about the US criminal justice system at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

    Dan’s professional experience includes:

    • Sexual Misconduct Allegations: Conducts investigations at educational institutions, corporations, governments, and other entities. In addition, Dan has trained university investigators on best practices when handling Title IX matters and is a pre-approved Sexual Misconduct Investigator for the United Educators ProResponse Expert Services Benefit.
    • Construction Monitorships, New York City: Managed numerous monitorships for such municipal government entities as the Housing Preservation Department, Housing Development Corporation, and Metropolitan Transportation Authority involving payroll auditing, prevailing wage payments, Women and Minority Business Enterprise (WMBE) subcontractors, and Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) compliance, among other issues.
    • Major Fraud and Internal Investigations: Leads investigations on behalf of corporate and government entities that uncover the misuse of funds, stolen intellectual property, the source of anonymous threats, and other illegal activity, resulting in the arrest and conviction of numerous individuals.
    • Criminal and Civil Litigation: Extensive experience successfully litigating a wide variety of cases in front of juries, judges, and arbitration panels, in addition to providing litigation-support investigative services.
