G. Scott Burk is a Senior Director at Ankura based in Dallas. He has over 25 years of experience in the energy and financial services industries including restructuring, financial management, investment research, and operations. He has held management and financial investment roles in the exploration and production, oilfield services, ocean shipping, chemicals, and investment banking sectors.

Experience

Scott was previously the chief financial officer and VP of finance for several independent oil and gas companies, with responsibility for finance, capital sourcing, and company administration duties. He also worked in investment research, covering the exploration and production, oil services, ocean shipping, and chemicals industries at bulge-bracket and international investment banks, where he helped portfolio managers navigate equity investments and assisted company management teams in raising capital in the public markets. He began his career as a hands-on reservoir/production engineer and project manager with a major oil and gas company.  

Scott’s professional experience includes: 

  • Advisor to electricity distribution cooperative during the Brazos bankruptcy. Analyzed impact of Brazos bankruptcy on client, developed alternative plans of reorganization, generated valuation of Brazos assets, represented client in financial negotiations, and advised management and board of directors. 
  • Back-up manager for several oil and gas securitizations. Provided pre-close due diligence and securitization model tie-outs.
  • Advisor to senior secured creditors of a Texas-based battery power operator. Developed initial valuation of collateral package and a range of strategic options for creditors. Evaluated DIP financing options and impact and represented lenders in all negotiations with company legal and financial advisors.
  • Advisor to oil services debtor Energy Alloys before and during bankruptcy; Ankura was CRO and financial advisor. Negotiated relief from the 1L lender and guided the company through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy centered around the successful sale of remaining real estate and international operating assets.
  • Chief Financial Officer of Pardus Oil & Gas, a small oil and gas company with assets in East Texas. Led a team of 12 and provided finance, strategic planning, business model, treasury, accounting, investor relations, risk management, and oil and gas marketing services. 
  • VP Finance of oil and gas company Energy & Exploration Partners. Restructured $1.15 billion debt and reduced annual cash interest by $90 million in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. Led corporate finance function and developed models used for DIP financing and restructuring plan. Testified in federal court in support of debtor filings to resolve conflicts with creditor committee. Delivered 75% cost savings for vital capabilities through operations and administrative cost optimization.
