Mark Hawken
Senior Managing Director
Mark Hawken is a Senior Managing Director at Ankura, based in the London office. Mark has over 28 years of experience in financial and operational restructuring, corporate finance/debt raising, financial management, and strategy. He has acted as an external advisor, principal investor and in an interim/line management capacity for business from start-ups to multinationals.
Experience
Mark’s experience covers a range of industry sectors, and he has extensive experience assisting the boards of public and private companies to improve performance and restructure complex capital structures.
Prior to joining Ankura, Mark spent nine years at a global consulting firm, where he was a Managing Director in the Turnaround & Restructuring practice, leading complex turnarounds of stressed and distressed companies both as advisor and interim manager. Mark has also worked as principal investor in a number of financial institutions, where he structured and syndicated financing for both PE backed and corporate clients. Mark started his career at a global accounting firm, where he specialised in corporate recovery and turnaround.
Examples of Mark’s experience in restructuring and finance management include:
- Director, Chief Financial Officer, and co-founder of Go Car Credit, where, together with the Chief Executive Officer, PE investors and leadership team, he successfully managed the acquisition, carve-out and return to growth of a UK specialist motor finance lender.
- Interim Finance Director for the technology and change division of a private equity owned payment processing company. Stabilised, rebuilt and reenergised the finance team; simplified and improved the planning, reporting and controllership functions for the division, delivering visibility and accountability for a £200million p.a. capital spend budget.
- Interim CFO of a UK high street insurance broker, stabilising the company through significant board-level change and subsequent regulatory investigation. Managed the audit and interface with the regulator, developed an integrated business plan and negotiated the refinancing of the company’s receivables securitisation and banking facilities.
- Led the development of an operational and financial turnaround plan for an AIM listed lending and retail business. Renegotiated the banking facilities and managed all company, shareholder and bank advisors involved in a rescue rights issue.
