Matthew C. Rychetsky is a Managing Director at Ankura, based in Chicago. He has over twenty years of valuation and financial advisory experience working with companies of all sizes. His valuation experience includes business enterprise and equity valuations, valuations of various categories of intangible assets, and a variety of discount studies/valuations performed for estate and gift tax planning purposes. Matthew’s valuation experience includes leading numerous engagements performed for financial reporting, merger and acquisition, litigation, and federal tax planning purposes.

    Consumer Products and Retail

    • Provided comprehensive valuation services for more than 10 years to an international retail pharmacy chain across more than 35 engagements. Services provided include business enterprise and intangible asset valuations performed in connection with acquisitions and dispositions of businesses and component assets; an annual valuation of the company’s business units for financial reporting purposes; valuations of businesses and assets in compliance with various tax and regulatory requirements.
    • Provided comprehensive valuation services on more than 15 engagements to a federal credit union in connection with its ownership interest in a leading west-coast retail check cashing and short-term lending business. Services provided include business enterprise and intangible asset valuations performed for financial reporting, tax, and regulatory purposes for more than a decade.
    • Engaged to perform a purchase price allocation analysis for a publicly-traded shelf-stable food company to estimate the fair value of 15 international, regional, and local food brands in connection with a $2.9 billion acquisition.
    • Valued multiple portfolios of consumer brands for a manufacturer and distributor of specialized dairy products.
    • Performed a valuation of a collection of restrictive agreements for a national consumer electronics retailer in connection with Section 280(g) of the Internal Revenue Code.
    • Engaged to perform a purchase price allocation analysis in connection with the valuation of trademarks and trade names of a well-known sporting goods brand that was acquired out of bankruptcy.
    • Valued the trade name of a national fitness brand in connection with its acquisition in a strategic transaction.

    Manufacturing and Industrial

    • Provided comprehensive valuation services for more than 10 years across more than 40 engagements to a manufacturer and distributor of premium residential kitchen appliances, as well as commercial food service and food processing equipment. Services provided include business enterprise and intangible asset valuations performed in connection with acquisitions and dispositions of businesses and component assets; an annual valuation of the company’s business units and portfolio of more than 60 brands for financial reporting purposes; valuations performed in connection with pre-acquisition due diligence activities.
    • Engaged for more than five years by a leading manufacturer of railcars to assist the company with a variety of valuation needs, including annual and interim impairment testing of tangible and intangible assets.
    • Provided comprehensive valuation services on multiple acquisitions to a manufacturer and distributor of filtration products in advance of a planned initial public offering.
    • Assisted a private equity buyer with the valuation of the acquired intangible assets of a leading manufacturer and distributor of fishing and pleasure boats, engines, and related accessories.
    • Valued the acquired customer and marketing-related intangible assets of a $500 million supplier of office products in connection with its acquisition by a competitor.
    • Assisted a leading manufacturer of flooring products with the valuation of acquired intangible assets in a transaction involving the permanent removal of a competitor from the market.
    • Assisted the City of Chicago in the valuation of certain operations associated with multiple material resource recovery facilities (MRRFs) for strategic planning purposes.

    • Performed business enterprise and intangible asset valuations of a healthcare technology development and services company in connection with its acquisition by a competitor.
    • Performed business enterprise and intangible asset (technology and customer-related assets) valuations on multiple acquisitions for a leading developer of payment processing software and infrastructure.
    • Valued the business enterprise and developed technology assets of a healthcare technology outsourcing company as part of an acquisition.
    • Performed a valuation of a portfolio of hundreds of patents for a wireless equipment manufacturer to determine the highest and best use of the portfolio by application under multiple scenarios.
    • Engaged to perform numerous purchase price allocations involving the valuation of multiple portfolios of intangible assets for a global wireless telecommunications equipment manufacturer in connection with FASB ASC 805.
    • Engaged to perform business enterprise and intangible asset valuations of two European subsidiaries of a $2 billion manufacturer and distributor of medical devices in connection with an international tax planning assignment.
