- Customer Complaints Artificial Intelligence (AI) Model and Remediation – Developed an AI model in conjunction with a manual review approach to analyze approximately 70,000 customer complaints and identify approximately 5,000 (7%) bank customers harmed by third-party buy now pay later vendor sales practices. The streamlined review approach resulted in $3 million of savings to the client.
- Automated Operational and Compliance Testing Platform / Servicing Oversight – Developed and managed a proprietary platform that significantly reduced the cost of mortgage servicing oversight programs for multiple banks, mortgage servicers, and investors while also increasing coverage to entire portfolios. The platform utilized data to automatically test for compliance with over 800 regulations and facilitated visualization, benchmarking, and analysis of test results along with customer complaints and other operating metrics across servicers.
- Auto Lending Exam Data Analytics – Compiled, transformed, and validated approximately 800 data files and 400 million rows of data from a bank and its vendors related to collateral protection insurance (CPI) to generate a CPI master table for submission to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
- Amortization Remediation – Restituted over 10,000 borrowers harmed by incorrect amortization of home equity lines of credit; reconciled data; developed models; updated system data.
- Aged Claims Analysis and Recovery – Collected over $13 million in significantly aged claim reimbursements from a government-sponsored enterprise by developing SQL, SAS, Access, VBA, and XML tools to facilitate onshore / offshore data analytics, doc gathering, and claims processing / tracking.
Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance
- Consumer Finance Regulation and Test Plan Repository – Built and maintained a repository of 8,000+ mortgage regulations and test plans covering all federal, state, investor, and insurer regulations and guidelines which facilitated numerous regulatory compliance efforts.
- Mortgage Origination Fee Tolerance Remediation – Identified approximately $800,000 in restitution due across 20% of borrowers by testing approximately 12,000 loans against TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) fee tolerance compliance requirements using an onshore-offshore team.
- Regulatory Change Management – Directed project management office for 500-person effort to assess the adequacy of mortgage servicing and default operations policies and procedures in accordance with over 5,000 legal obligations within 110 days to meet a regulatory deadline.
- Foreclosure Compliance Review – Led 200-member team in a U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) mandated Independent Foreclosure Review of a bank’s foreclosure actions for compliance with laws. Selected statistical samples, built approximately 65 test plans (approximately 2,700 questions), worked with a vendor to develop a testing system, tested and reported findings on over 28,000 loans (approximately 4 million tests), and quantified borrower harm.
- Loan Modification Risk Assessment – Identified 17 findings related to investor risk in a mortgage loan modification program via 50 interviews, 250 loan file reviews, and data analytics focused on all modification stages, borrower complaints, servicer oversight, and accounting.
- Internal Audit – Established internal audit program; executed annual risk and controls assessment, developed and executed audit plan; and reported findings, recommendations, and action plans to management and Audit Committee.
Business Transformation
- Merger Readiness Assessment – Assessed readiness, customer impact, and capabilities to help realize synergies as part of a merger integration.
- Operations Assessment and Improvement – Enabled end of commercial lending freeze and addressed OCC regulatory matters by assessing the current state and implementing improvement recommendations associated with commercial loan operations, deposits and branch operations, and consumer compliance programs.
- Outsourced Compliance Testing – Cut compliance cost by 40% while increasing testing frequency 12 times, volume 100%, and regulations covered 486% by establishing onshore / offshore (India) mortgage compliance testing operation supported by a proprietary regulation / test plan database and web-based testing system.
- Loan Transfer Process Transformation and Project Management – Streamlined and reduced risk in the loan transfer exclusion analysis process by aligning and eliminating waste from two disparate processes and enhancing approval and data integrity controls. Managed 30 projects to improve loan transfer controls in response to an audit of a 350,000-loan portfolio acquisition.
