Carl Cross is a Senior Director at Ankura, based out of Denver and Dallas. Carl has more than 25 years of combined architectural forensic analysis, design, and project management experience on municipal, commercial, healthcare, institutional, multi-family, educational, religious, and custom residential projects.

Experience

Some of the most influential aspects of Carl’s architectural career have included engaging in the practice of traditional architectural design services for over 15 years in both Colorado and Texas, owning and managing an architectural design firm and teaching the art and skill of architectural drafting to others in his community. Carl is licensed in multiple states and is an NCARB certificate holder.  His areas of expertise include forensic investigation and analysis of defective construction, building code analysis, evaluation of architectural standard of care, architectural design and documentation, construction contract administration, and consultant coordination.

Carl’s experience and expertise enable him to provide critical analysis and testimony on complex design and construction defect disputes. Carl has planned and directed forensic building envelope investigations and has provided expert opinions regarding architectural standard of care and defective construction for owners, design professionals, and contractors. He has provided consulting and architectural design services in both the public and private sectors.

Carl’s professional experience includes:

  • Provides expert analysis, reporting, and testimony regarding design and construction disputes including errors and omissions, building code, defective design, and construction and architectural standard of care.
  • Assisted with forensic building code analysis, investigative building envelope field work, and construction defect repair protocol review for commercial and multi-family residential building envelope disputes.
  • Assisted with project implementation, staff management, and architectural design services and documentation for various educational projects.
  • Assisted with the implementation of a district-wide facility assessment project for a large school district in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area.
  • Seven years as principal architect responsible for the architectural planning and entitlement, design, documentation, and management services on a variety of commercial, light industrial, parks and recreation, municipal, multi-family, and residential projects.
  • Led architecture and landscape architecture design firm as owner, responsible for the negotiation and implementation of client and consultant design services contracts/agreements.
  • Aims Community College instructor for AutoCAD Architecture, Revit, and Sketchup.
  • Performed architectural project design, construction documents, construction contract administration, and consultant coordination for various institutional, commercial, healthcare, religious, and municipal projects.
  • Performed architectural field representative construction contract administration services, including onsite construction observation and documentation services.
