Eric C. Brodfuehrer is a Senior Director at Ankura. He has extensive experience in the analysis, documentation, reporting, and resolution of technical disputes involving design deficiencies, constructability issues, errors and omissions, defective construction, standard of care, code analysis, accepted industry standards, contractual disputes, termination, construction administration errors, change order and submittal review, forensic investigation, and damages. Eric also has extensive experience in design and construction project management as an owner’s representative for the development of large multi-phased real estate projects and the execution of capital projects.
Experience
Eric previously spent 15 years in the professional practice of architecture and has extensive experience in the programming, planning, design, and construction of many complex building projects. He has managed the design documentation and coordination process, construction phases, technical review, and project review with the authority having jurisdiction for several projects both large and small.
Eric’s professional experience includes:
- Defective Design and Construction: Provide expert analysis of design and construction methodologies, technical detailing, design quality, construction workmanship, and compliance with industry standards the applicable codes adopted by the jurisdiction having authority.
- Contractual Services: Provides support and technical expertise in the use of AIA contracts to understand deliverables and minimize risk based on the type of facility, project delivery method, and client goals.
- Design and Construction Advisory Services: Assist in developing the owner’s vision through planning, programming, design, and detailing. Provide quality control and coordination of consultants, engineers, manufacturers, general contractors, and construction managers.
Professional Liability, Defect Construction, and Standard of Care
- Hospital, Goldsboro, NC: Retained by the State of North Carolina (owner) to review alleged claims of defective design associated with construction defects and delay claims. The claim involved the administration and execution of scopes of work related to delegated design work.
- Apartment Building, Tamal Vista, CA: Retained by developer to support the reconstruction and litigation effort of a complex that was uninhabitable as completion neared. The project was partially design build. Duties included review of construction documents, contracts, construction detailing, construction administration documentation, submittals, and change orders.
- Condominium High Rise, Las Vegas, NV: Retained by the contractor against the homeowner’s association and the architect. The homeowner’s association claims faulty workmanship and construction defects resulted in damages. The contractor claims that the architect’s construction documents were incomplete.
- Condominium Buildings, Perth Amboy, NJ: Retained by the developer against the contractor and the architect. The homeowner’s association alleges faulty workmanship and construction defects resulted in damages. The developer claims that the architect’s construction documents were incomplete.
- Residence – Manhattan, NY: Retained by the developer against owner. The owner claims the architect failed to provide the requisite standard of care and failed to design the residence in accordance with industry standards and applicable codes.
- Condominium, Washington, DC: Retained by the contractor against the homeowner’s association and the architect. The homeowner’s association alleges faulty workmanship and construction defects resulted in damages. The contractor claims that the architect’s construction documents were incomplete.
Wrongful Termination & Contract Disputes
- School District, Central PA: Retained by the architect against the school district. The school district claimed gross negligence in the development of cost estimate by the architect. At the completion of the schematic design the school district terminated the architect despite contractual provisions allowing for the correction of the work.
Design and Construction Advisory Services
- Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings, Inc (“LabCorp”): Retained by the owner to provide capital project planning assistance. Assisted the owner in developing project scope, budget planning, schedule planning, writing and evaluating RFP’s for professional services, managing of project for multiple projects.
Design & Construction – Architecture
- Geisinger Healthcare System Woodbine Outpatient Facility, Danville, PA: Project architect for a 130,000 SF expansion of the ambulatory surgery center and construction of a three-level parking structure.
- New York Presbyterian Hospital, New York, NY: Project architect for the restructuring of the cardiology unit that included renovation of the catheterization labs, the cardiac graphic clinical suite, the electrophysiology labs, and a stereo taxis suite and the addition of new egress stair.
- Al-Maktoum Trauma Hospital, Dubai, UAE: Project architect for the clinical laboratory facilities, central pharmacy, and sterile manufacturing unit.
