James Crissinger is a Senior Director at Ankura based in Washington, DC. James has over 18 years of combined experience in the construction industry, having worked as a subcontractor in the field, a project architect, and an owner’s representative. As a member of the Professional Liability and Defective Construction Group, James has supported owners and contractors with the analysis of design and construction defects and evaluation of architectural standard of care for manufacturing, hospitality, multi-family, and infrastructure projects.
As an advisor at Ankura, James leverages over a decade of life sciences design and construction experience and brings a firm understanding of the complexities associated with laboratory improvements and optimization to support clients’ current needs and future growth. He has served as an owner’s representative for laboratory, aviation, and commercial office programs.
James previously spent 12 years working in the architecture field. He is an experienced project manager and project architect and has worked on an array of project types. He is a skilled laboratory planner, building envelope designer, and construction administrator. James has managed the design and coordination of permit and construction deliverables, document quality control, value engineering, cost control, and provided construction oversight using a wide range of project delivery methods.

Construction Disputes
- Industrial Facility, Confidential Location: Supported the owner with analysis of construction defects associated with the architect’s standard of care. Analysis included a review of post-occupancy issues related to the degradation of building components due to design deficiencies.
- Single-Family Residence, Las Vegas, NV: Supported the owner with analysis of design errors resulting in budget and schedule overruns.
- Infrastructure Project, Confidential Location: Supported the construction joint venture with analysis of design defects, errors, and omissions for a multi-billion-dollar infrastructure project consisting of multiple buildings and structures spanning two countries and an international border. Error and omissions review consisted of analysis of design evolution incorporating modifications against layered project specifications, multiple end-users’ design guidelines, and local/ international building codes. Ongoing litigation support for anticipated international arbitration.
- Luxury Hotel Campus, Phoenix, AZ: Supported the owner with the analysis of the architect’s standard of care related to the design of a hotel and luxury villas. Analyzed project records related to incomplete design and construction administration performance associated with construction defects and delay claims.
- Global Retail Headquarters, Beaverton, OR: Supported the owner in analyzing project cost and time impacts due to contractor performance and contractual obligations.
- Luxury Condominiums, San Francisco, CA: Assisted owner in the analysis of costs associated with architect’s standard of care issues and design changes.
- Luxury Apartment Building, West Hollywood, CA: Assisted contractor in analyzing claims related to procurement and quality control of owner-specified materials.
