John Francisco is a Senior Director at Ankura, based in Seattle. John has more than 15 years of experience guiding clients in a broad range of industries involved in disputes, litigation, and investigations. He has worked on multiple international projects in Europe and the Middle East and has managed and coordinated teams across several countries. In addition to providing financial and economic consulting services, John specializes in preparing experts for depositions, trials, arbitration, and alternative dispute-resolution processes.

Experience

John’s professional experience includes:

  • Contract Dispute, Government Services: Provided damage analyses and assisted expert-witness testimony preparation related to the termination of a healthcare provider at a county jail facility in Washington State.
  • Tax Dispute, State of Washington: Worked with the state Office of the Attorney General to examine and analyze the financial health of Native American Tribes involved in a tax dispute with the state government. John helped prepare expert testimony on the Tribes’ revenue sources, use of tribal funds, and ability to pay future obligations.
  • Capitation Payment Investigation, Healthcare Industry: Assisted a large medical health insurer with an internal investigation into payments made to providers by an acquired organization.
  • Product Recall Dispute: Worked with the counsel of a candle wholesaler in the response to damage claims lodged by a manufacturer of wax warmers that were involved in a product recall.
  • Lease Dispute, National Coffee Retailer: Engaged by the retailer’s legal counsel to analyze the financial impact associated with store closings at numerous mall locations.
  • Response to Government Investigation, Real Estate Development Company: Worked with counsel to an owner of a real estate development company facing allegations by the US Department of Justice of misappropriation of foreign investor funds. John reviewed financial records, analyzed the corporate structure and relationship between the various legal entities, evaluated financial transactions, and traced funds transferred among these entities.
  • Employment Contract Dispute, Public University: For the client’s matter with the former head coach of an athletic department, analyzed specific contract provisions and created performance and contract benchmarks.
  • Employment Termination Dispute: Worked with counsel representing a large investment bank in the quantification of counterclaims damages against the former employer of a recently joined group of professionals. John developed a claim of financial damages for the group who alleged that the termination by their former employer was unjust.
  • Facility Relocation Dispute, Technology Industry: Assisted counsel to a software developer in preparing a damage claim against a rival in a dispute over damages related to the move of a European distribution center from Germany to the Netherlands.
  • Claims Analysis, Healthcare Industry: Assisted a large healthcare insurer in a dispute with a Native American health services provider related to non-contracted services provided by a Native American health facility.
  • Consent Order Compliance, Financial Services: Assisted counsel to a large Wall Street bank in complying with federal regulators’ orders. The project involved independently evaluating and reviewing foreclosures performed by the bank’s loan servicing arm to ensure that they complied with all applicable laws and bank internal controls. Findings from the review were reported to both federal regulators and the bank.
  • Antitrust Dispute, Healthcare Industry: Worked with the outside counsel of a regional optometric services provider in evaluating damages claims related to alleged antitrust violations.
  • Accounting Investigation, Family-Owned Business: Assisted counsel attempting to reconcile historical ownership capital accounts and past distribution payments.
  • Anti-Kickback Dispute, Healthcare System: Assisted counsel to a regional health system facing allegations of a kickback scheme related to Medicare patient referrals at one of its facilities. John analyzed claim-level data and validated the calculation of patient responsibility amounts.
  • Construction Dispute, UAE Transportation Infrastructure Project: Assisted the counsel to the civil works joint-venture in Dubai in preparating claims against the owner. Working in Dubai, John identified and verified project recorded costs of roughly $4.5 billion.
  • Construction Dispute, Qatar Residential Project: Worked in Doha with solicitors on claims against the owner of a residential project consisting of 128 buildings with approximately 6,000 apartment units. John prepared narratives associated with various subcontract packages and project phases, which were incorporated into a main claim against the owner and subsequently submitted to a dispute advisory board.
  • Construction Dispute, UK Sports Facility: Worked in London to aid solicitors in analyzing the value of subcontractor packages as part of a larger contractor claim against architects and engineers of the premier national stadium in the country.
