Mark Gribble
Managing Director
Mark Gribble is a Managing Director at Ankura, based in London. He focuses on the development and delivery of measured risk-based sanctions compliance solutions for financial services and corporate clients. Mark has extensive experience of managing and implementing sanctions programs in Tier 1 Financial Institutions and leading financial crime transformation activities.
Experience
Prior to joining Ankura, Mark worked for Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), and was responsible for leading the Sanctions Compliance teams across Europe and the Middle East, which included remediating the terms of their consent order in the region. This involved the implementation of new technology for screening, developing list management capabilities and new sanctions KYC, EDD, and advisory requirements across the business lines.
Previously, Mark worked for Barclays and HSBC, for 20 years. Initially joining the financial crime team as the head of financial crime transformation, Mark was responsible for implementing multiple policy and PEP, sanctions, and transaction monitoring screening requirements for the wealth management businesses. This ultimately led to managing the terms of the Banks Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) and a transition to a new role as head of sanctions.
Across both UK banks, Mark led the implementation of the respective sanctions’ programs for countries in the Americas, UK, Europe the Middle East, and Asia, ultimately incorporating all business lines across retail, private, corporate and investment banking divisions. This role included facilitating the onsite Monitors at both banks whilst developing the Target Operating Model and building operations and specialist teams in multiple countries and managing multiple remedial streams of work. Core areas of focus included policy development, due diligence standards, control enhancements, global risk assessments, specialist training, various screening initiatives and a significant number of high-risk reviews.
