Rani Bou Hamdan is a Managing Director at Ankura with over 15 years of financial advisory experience. He is focused on high-profile turnaround and restructuring engagements with large corporates and leading banks across the GCC. Over the last two years, he led the successful closure of complex restructuring transactions with combined debt of more than $2 billion. Prior to this, he advised a leading GCC bank on managing large, distressed exposures and non-performing loans as part of a six-month secondment to the bank’s work-out unit.

Experience

Broad financial advisory experience includes supporting both corporates – in preparing business plans, financial forecasts and negotiating restructuring plans as lead restructuring advisor – and lenders with independent business reviews and restructuring solutions. He also led large turnaround implementation and performance improvement projects, in addition to buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence engagements.

Rani’s relevant professional experience includes:

  • Business planning and restructuring advisory support under the Financial Reorganization Procedures (FRP) of the KSA Bankruptcy law in relation to the debt of two large Saudi contractors with combined FRP liabilities of SAR 7.7 billion. The restructuring proposals were successfully approved by the majority of the creditors and ratified by the court
  • Seconded as a restructuring senior manager to SABB’s Special Asset Management division to assist the Head of Financial Restructuring in managing the distressed asset portfolio post-merger of SABB and Alawwal banks, as well as managing individual complex problem exposures within the combined portfolio
  • Business diagnostic and options review for a large KSA-based steel and industrials conglomerate in preparation for restructuring SAR 2.6 billion of group debt
  • Independent business review and options analysis in relation to the restructuring of the SAR 2.5 billion debt facilities of a large KSA-based manufacturer and producer of building materials
  • Business plan preparation for one of the largest UAE-based publicly listed contractors in relation to the restructuring of debt facilities of AED 6 billion
  • Liquidity review, business planning, and debt restructuring services to a family-owned UAE-based group of F&B companies in relation to potential debt and equity financing
